Measuring liquids accurately
Use a clear, spouted liquid measuring cup for liquids. Set it on the counter and check the line at eye level, since looking from above makes it easy to overfill. Dry measuring cups are designed to be levelled off and can't hold a full cup of liquid without spilling.

A US cup is 236.6 mL, often rounded to 240 mL. A metric cup is 250 mL.
Is a Canadian cup the same as a US cup?
Most Canadian measuring cups are 250 mL metric cups, slightly larger than a US cup. Many older Canadian recipes, though, were written for the 227 mL imperial-style cup or the US cup.
