½Swift Recipe Converter

Swift Recipe Converter is run by Reg, a home cook in Winnipeg who got tired of doing recipe math on the back of an envelope. Halving a cookie recipe that calls for three eggs, cooking a family recipe for twice the people, or working from a cookbook written in grams all meant stopping to do arithmetic in the middle of cooking. This site does that part for you.

What's on the site

  • The recipe converter scales any ingredient list and converts between cups, spoons, grams and millilitres, plus oven temperatures.
  • The weekly meal plan gives you four weeks of dinners with a shopping list for each week.
  • Recipe Roulette picks a recipe for you when you can't decide.
  • The guides explain the kitchen math behind scaling, measuring and baking.

How the conversions work

Everything runs in your browser. The converter reads each ingredient line, multiplies the amount by your scale factor, and converts units using standard kitchen tables. For cups to grams it uses a separate weight for each common ingredient, because a cup of flour (about 120 g) and a cup of sugar (about 200 g) are very different. Your recipe text is never sent to a server.

Limits worth knowing

Volume-to-weight conversions are averages. Results vary with brand, humidity and how firmly an ingredient is packed into the cup. For bread, pastry and large-batch baking, a digital kitchen scale is the most reliable tool.
